We get up to 8 hours per year to serve as a volunteer at a non-profit organization (not a church organization though) or at a school. I have used this time off for many years and have enjoyed my time volunteering and appreciate the time given me. In fact, for many years I took vacation time to volunteer, and a few years ago realized I could have been using my volunteer time for this all along. I wasn't allowed to go back and change my time though. I'd like us to have more volunteer time off, as long as it can be documented as real time away. Oh, and this past year I found out that if you volunteer to attend the gay parade on the weekend, you will be paid for that time off. What in the world?! I attend 4th of July parades and have never been paid for it! Not a fan.
