From our humble beginnings as a small discount retailer in Rogers, Ark., Walmart has opened thousands of stores in the U.S. and expanded internationally. Through innovation, we're creating a seamless experience to let customers shop anytime and anywhere online and in stores. We are creating opportunities and bringing value to customers and communities around the globe. Walmart operates more than 10,500 stores and numerous eCommerce websites in 19 countries. We employ 2.1 million associates around the world — nearly 1.6 million in the U.S. alone. We aim to build a better world — helping people live better and renew the planet while building thriving, resilient communities. For us, this means working to create opportunity, build a more sustainable future, advance diversity, equity and inclusion and bring communities closer together. And at the end of the day, helping our customers save more of their hard earned money for the things they care about most. Because at Walmart, Live Better is what we do every day. We believe Walmart has a differentiated proposition with respect to upward mobility: low barriers to entry into Walmart jobs, the stability of a 70% full-time workforce, and predictable scheduling; competitive compensation and benefits; and distinctive training, development, and pathways to promotion and careers. Our approach is based on the following principles: • Belonging: Make Walmart a place for everyone where associates know they are listened to, valued, engaged, and supported. • Well-being: Prioritize the financial, physical, and emotional well-being of associates by providing attractive pay and benefits, many of which start on the first day of employment. • Growth: Provide opportunities for all associates to learn and grow through leading in-house training programs, an industry-leading education platform, and multiple career pathways. • Strengthening workforce development beyond Walmart: Strengthen the U.S. frontline workforce development system in retail and related sectors. Walmart is committed to making retail a place of inclusive and equitable opportunity for our associates and across related sectors. We use our position as an employer, retailer and community member to promote respect for human rights. And we continue to pursue special initiatives to increase the sourcing of products that support the creation of American jobs. Join us!

Publix Super Markets tops the list of privately-owned supermarkets in the US. The nation's largest employee-owned company, Publix has grown faster and been more profitable than its rivals. More than two-thirds of its 1,350-plus stores are in Florida, but Publix is gaining an increasing presence in Alabama, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Kentucky. Publix's manufacturing operations produce award-winning bakery and dairy products as well as deli goods. More than 950 store locations have pharmacies and some have liquor stores, too. Founder George Jenkins began offering stock to Publix employees in 1930.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) handles cards, letters, and packages sent both domestically and internationally. The USPS delivers 145 billion pieces of mail a year to some 153 million addresses in the U.S. and its territories. The independent government agency accepts no tax dollars and relies on postage to fund operations. Though USPS has a market dominant status on delivery of mail, it faces competition from other carriers for services such as package delivery. The USPS, much like a private sector company, is overseen by a Board of Governors. Nine of the eleven members are appointed by the President of the United States and confirmed by the U.S. Senate. The Board of Governors select the postmaster general, and together they name the deputy postmaster general; the two also serve on the board.

In 1930, a small general store was opened in Beaconsfield, Iowa. That store grew to become Hy-Vee — a Midwest supermarket chain known for its excellent customer service and reasonable prices. As an employee-owned company, we encourage each of our more than 84,000 employees in 242 stores across eight states to help guide Hy-Vee’s future. Today, Hy-Vee continues to be synonymous with quality, variety, value and superior customer service. Our slogan, “A Helpful Smile in Every Aisle,” expresses the foundation of our company’s operating philosophy and brand promise to customers.

Fred Meyer Stores went out for groceries and wound up in Kroger's cart. Freddy's -- as the chain is known -- is a supercenter pioneer providing food and general merchandise to cost-conscious consumers in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. One of the largest supercenter operators in the US (along with Wal-Mart and Costco Wholesale), Fred Meyer's 125 multidepartment stores (averaging more than 165,000 sq. ft.) offer everything from apparel and home goods to groceries, consumer electronics, fuel, and jewelry. Its Web store delivers to the Alaska Bush. Kroger has leveraged Fred Meyer's general merchandising expertise as defense against Wal-Mart, which has overtaken Kroger as the #1 seller of groceries in the US.
