Founded in 1853, the University of Florida (UF) is the state's oldest university and one of the largest in the country, with more than 50,000 students and 4,000 faculty members. UF is a major land-grant research university encompassing 2,000 acres in Gainesville, Florida. The Spartan population is anything but spartan, at least at Michigan State University (MSU). With an enrollment of roughly 47,000 students, MSU dominates the town of East Lansing.
