I had applied to the Recruiting Coordinator position via their website and heard back from a recruiter the following morning. She was very responsive and we set up a phone interview for the next day as I was swamped with school and work that day.
I'd like to say that I am quite observant and have the ability to read people very easily, and within 3 minutes of my phone interview with the recruiter, I knew that I wouldn't be moving on to the second round of interviews. It was incredibly difficult to carry on a conversation with her as she would give me short answers to every single question I asked. I'm quite social and friendly, yet there was just something about this particular recruiter that seemed off. In a sense, it felt like her friendliness was fake and/or forced.
Interestingly enough, I recently caught up with a friend of mine who also happened to have an interview with Box (but for another position) and even before I shared my experience with her, she stated that there was one recruiter she did not like. Though I am sure most employees at Box are warm and amicable, my first impression (as well as my friend's first impression) of this recruiter was not a good one and I do feel that I could have passed the interview had I talked to a different recruiter.
Overall, the interview experience could have been better. If I were the Director of People Ops, I'd be a bit concerned about this recruiter considering that there are several reports of her being standoffish and difficult to interact with.
