I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (Los Angeles, CA) in Oct 2010
Interview
I arrived at my interview about 30 minutes early and waited in the lobby until my interviewer came to bring me up to the interview room. I was expecting a 1:1 interview setting, however, the director of the lab surprised me by telling me I would have 5 separate interviews that day, each would last about 20 minutes. I first interviewed with the director for 15 minutes. He asked me basic questions such as my educational backgrounds, my work experience, etc. Then he asked me if I knew about the basic research his lab was conducting. The next interview was done conducted by an MD/PhD. The third interviewer was the lab manager. The fourth and and fifth interview was done together by a PhD and another Research Associate. This one was the hardest because the PhD grilled me about the different genes and experiments related to the research. I've worked in a research lab before, but it was focused on diabetes. This research was focused on a totally different subject. I answered everything to the best of my ability, and honestly. After all the interviews have been conducted, the director then told me that he would let me know by the middle of next week. However, he didn't extend an offer to me until two weeks later because he was still interviewing other candidates. I found the interview atmosphere to be a little intimidating, but all the interviewers were very considerate and understanding.

Interview
The interview process starts with talking to HR first, then an interview with the lead scientist and finally an interview with the PI. After a week maybe two HR will make you an offer when you try to rebuttal the salary because its usually lower than most places they will barely try to budge.
