I was contracted by Loren McDaniel for an interview which, despite a prompt response from my side, did not materialize as expected. I reached out to confirm the interview date but did not receive any response.
Surprisingly, months later, I was approached again by the same recruiter for a different position. During the phone interview, I provided a thorough explanation of the "class" concept in object-oriented programming, supplemented by examples. She sounded impressed and told me that even though I had just taught her what a class was, it was not the precise definition that she was looking for. I was confused, particularly after verifying my explanation against standard definitions. She went on to further explain that she is not a technical person, only that this was not the exact definition she was looking for.
The interview took an unexpected turn when I realized it was being conducted on speakerphone, I heard a male voice in the background speaking to her. I suppose the person listening in on our conversation didn't like me and they were looking for any excuse to reject me. I felt like I was in high school and someone was playing a prank on me.
Reflecting on the entire experience, it felt quite unorthodox and left me questioning the professionalism of the recruitment process. Based on this and stories I’ve heard from others within the industry, it seems there may be a broader issue with company culture, at least in certain departments or roles.
