My interview was at 10am; I was told over the phone that the interview would be a 1:1 interview so I was thrown off when I saw another interviewee in a suite and tie, holding birth certificate and passport etc.
We went upstairs together with who I assumed to be the manager of that store ( I was interviewed at a different store to the one I applied for) and a lady helping out. She told us to sit at a table in a room and fill out our contact details while she went into the other room. When she returned she talked us through the next stage of the interview which was a role playing activity. I had been worrying about this the week prior so I wasn't exactly enthusiastic about doing this. Luckily the role play was actually a 1:1!
We were given a worksheet with the details of three mobile phone contracts such as text, mins, data usage limits and the overall prices. The cheapest started at £25 p/m, £35 p/m and the most expensive was £45 p/m. During the role play the manager posed as a customer looking for an upgrade. (The upgrade is your handset along with the most relevant contract.) I had to sell him the most appropriate contract based on his responses. A good place to start is to greet them like you would a real customer and ask questions about what they plan to use the phone for. We were allowed to take the sheet in with us as a guideline and make notes if necessary. You also had to sell the benefits of your current handset. After the role play I was provided with some positive feedback and we then moved onto the competency interview. Where the manager asked some standard interview questions like -"Why Carphone Warehouse?"
Once that was over I shook his hand and they wished me luck on the rest of the process.
As soon as I left though, I received a call from the manager of the store I had actually applied for asking me to attend an interview there on the same day. When I told her I had just finished the interview she seemed confused, I don't know what that was about.
Oh well.
