I applied online. I interviewed at Datadog in Nov 2020
Interview
I was reached out by Barbara Lee after applying to a couple of positions that I thought I'd be a good fit for. Barbara was BY FAR the best recruiter I've ever had the opportunity to work with, and I've worked with many
recruiters from FANG, unicorns, and top hedge funds over the years.
Barbara was very active in providing updates and feedback throughout the interview process, always keeping me in the loop and never felt like I was getting ghosted or waitlisted at any point. She explained everything from company culture to specifics on the role and team clearly and professionally, while also making our conversations very friendly and enjoyable.
Not just Barbara, but everyone I had the privilege of interviewing with was super friendly as well, and honestly I felt the entire interview experience was as close to perfect as it could have been. I'm usually not a fan of take home projects, but the project they give you (which other reviews here already discuss) is bite-sized enough that it shouldn't take more than half a day.
The onsite process was very standard and without surprises. Coding round was about Leetcode medium difficulty and included follow-up discussions on how to scale the solution. For system design and systems, it helps to have done some research beforehand on Datadog as a product and what their backend architecture might look like, as well as being able to deep dive into one or two projects you worked on. Behavioral round with the hiring manager was as standard as it could be.
Overall, the entire experience end to end from the first call to the offer letter went incredibly smoothly, and I genuinely wish other companies would take a page out of Datadog's interviewing playbook. Huge shoutout to Barbara again for being such an awesome recruiter to work with.

Question 1
Why Datadog? Take home project was designing an HTTP log monitor. Coding round and system design rounds were very relevant to what Datadog works on.
One knowledge interview and one technical interview afterwards. Knowledge was fine. During the tech one, the interviewer was not listening. The problem was a standard one. Got rejected after second round.

Knapsack problem with coins, solved via dynamic programming
