Fairly unorganized interview process, I have never been a part of interviews where the interviewers were more evidently burnt out or overwhelmed. Many of the interviewers were either new hires or had rapidly changed positions within the company, it seemed very hectic. They also base the entire hiring decision on whether applicants can answer a niche SQL question in under 25 minutes, which was pretty strange.

Aggregate fields from these 3 tables to create new metrics, and combine the results of the aggregations into a single table.
Started with a recruiter phone screen to discuss the company and position as well as salary expectations (external). First round was a screen with the hiring manager to talk about DS background and through case study and a technical phone screen that tested SQL and A/B testing knowledge.

Question 1
How would you develop a ranking algorithm to return search results for hotels in a city?
I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Engine (Denver, CO) in Dec 2021
Interview
Slow process. Recruiting took a couple weeks in between each interview to get back to me. I hadn’t heard back for around 3 weeks and then got a call stating that the team thinks I’m not quite “senior level”, and that the salary range would be dropping approximately $50k. However, in the interview I was more than able to answer questions and had demonstrated I’ve done many of the things they’re trying to accomplish.
I had very good feedback from the interviewer, stating “we definitely want to move you forward in the hiring process”. I asked for feedback from the recruiter as to why I am not viewed as “senior level” after getting good feedback in the interview. After about a week and a half, still no feedback.
Bottom line: It seems this team doesn’t know what they're looking for quite yet and are wasting candidates time while they figure it out. Data scientists - Do yourself a favor and avoid these bait-and-switch companies.

Questions about your experience and then a leetcode-style problem to work through. There was supposed to be a take home exercise next.
