A recruiter from Flock reached out to me and was enthusiastic before and after our initial call. Once I completed the screening process, I was scheduled for a 30-minute call with the hiring manager. It's safe to say rapport wasn't the issue. 30 minutes is not enough time to share your sales experience, and strategies and save enough time to ask thorough questions about the company and the role. Regardless, we went for it. The hiring manager came a little know-it-all, which was discouraging because it was clear and understood that I come from a different SaaS background. I was asked a question that I answered in a different way than was expected yet the same answer. Although everything felt rushed, I walked away from the interview believing things went well. I followed up with an empathetic email and waited over a week to receive a generic, "Unfortunately, after careful consideration..." email. I've sold SMB, mid-market, and enterprise products for quite some time and am well aware that I was overqualified.
Advice for hiring team: perfection picking is not the way to go.
