First round: group interview. I sat in the very front so they would notice me and I volunteered early in the group for the speaking activities. We each had to stand up and answer: What position we wanted the most; experience in food, grocery, or customer service; and picked either to talk about our favorite recipe or a time you or someone who was serving you went above and beyond their duty. Then we worked in groups and each received a customer service scenario that we had to say what we would do as an HEB employee in that situation.
Second round: one-on-one interview with a manager. Pretty difficult questions for a grocery store, but not too bad. Questions such as a time we had to work with someone difficult, had to re-prioritize based on new/hard work assignments, etc. Basic behavioral interview questions that appear on most interview prep sites. There were at least 10 which seemed like a lot.
This location is fairly new and offered 10.25 minimum starting for cashiers. I had no prior experience specifically but have a college degree and money handling experience.
I let them know it was a second job for me and they seemed very open to working with schedules. Availability and scheduling is done online to prevent overlooking someones request.
