I applied online via the H&M Careers page. Within 2 weeks i received a phone call for a brief chat, they asked some basic questions like, how far away do you live from the store? How do you plan on travelling to the store? Why do you want to work for H&M? What hours are you looking for? Are you flexible? How much notice will you require?
At the end of the phone call i was asked to attend an interview the following Tuesday (5 or 6 days later) and to bring my passport.
Here i started off in a room with 2 people. One lead the interview while the other took notes, although the note taker asked some questions too. The questions where standard questions and i was well prepared for the majority of them so had no hesitations in answering them. They asked a lot about my past work and what skills i have acquired, and what can i bring to H&M. They also asked what i knew about the company and what traits i thought would be important to them. They where both very warm and welcoming and made the interview very easy and relaxed. This made the interview flow really nicely and felt more like a conversation.
After the interview which was around 30 mins (maybe a little longer) i was put on the floor for practical work. 10 minutes doing floor standards, 10 minutes in a fitting room and 10 minutes in the stock room. This was to teach me the basics and also to see how i managed, thrown straight into work .
I've done all of this before in past work experience so i found it easy. They asked after every section how i got on, in particular after the fitting room section as it's the most difficult.
After this we headed back inside for a quick chat they gave me an overview of the company and told me that they would be in touch by Friday. I got a call friday morning at 10:20 for a 20 hour contract, starting of on full time for 3 weeks (It's a new store so they needed me to work more hours in the beginning)
