      Support Specialist Interview

      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Handshake in May 2021

      Interview

I applied for their remote Support Specialist contract role, got sent a 2-hour take-home assessment, and then was declined all within two days, so I appreciated the speedy responses. Unfortunately, the take-home assessment was a massive waste of time. I was a sent a demo of their web software and a link to their knowledge base and told to answer six questions that I'd likely see as a Support Specialist. Unfortunately, the document was a .pdf (you're stuck copying/pasting your answers or converting the .pdf to another format just to answer), they wanted screenshots instead of explanations (uploading 6+ screenshots or having to attach them to your answers is rather ridiculous), I received no feedback afterward, and it wasn't even a test of finding the correct answers. An exercise to understand how candidates think could have easily been accomplished in a 30-minute phone interview, not having them faff about software you have no understanding of. Your only saving grace is above-average documentation. Handshake seems like a decent company, but their interview process needs an overhaul.

      Question 1

There were six test questions based on tickets you'd see in an average day (e.g. checking permissions for a student who can't see appointments).

      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Handshake in Oct 2020

      Interview

After applying and being invited to the interview, there was a shared document with some creative problem-solving tasks and a demo account to find the answers to the questions being asked. However, they were more interested in my thought process rather than finding a "correct" response, which speaks volumes about the types of people they interview and want to bring onboard. From there, it was a short standard interview with the hiring manager or another manager from the support team.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What are you looking for from your supervisor? What are your pet peeves? What can you tell us about your previous customer service experience?
