You have to maintain professionalism. The biggest reason I had difficulties with one co-worker was because of personal differences. For the benefit of the company, it is not reasonable to have personal rivalries get in the way of work. It is difficult, but I had to look past the fact that my co-worker was different than I was and made sure the interactions I had with him were purely based on work.
