How have you handled an irate customer?

Even though it may not seem obvious, I realize that the customer has a valid complaint. One bad customer experience can lead to many others. I try and empathize with the customer and understand their point of view. I then resolve the situation. Most of the time, it's not worth having an angry customer, even knowing their demand might not seem realistic from a business standpoint.
