I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Illumina (San Diego, CA) in Apr 2015
Interview
Pretty standard interview process. Initial phone interview with HR followed by another phone interview with the Hiring Manager. The last step was an onsite interview where I met with 3 different people from the team individually, 30 minutes each. The interview process went by pretty fast, I was contacted by HR a day after applying online. Both phone interviews ocurred the same week and my onsite interview was a week later. I was notified about a month after my onsite interview that they had hired another candidate.

Question 1
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Why do you want work here? Explain a situation with a difficult customer and how you handled it?
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Illumina (Foster City, CA) in May 2021
Interview
The overall process took about 4 weeks. First I got a call with a recruiter about 2 days after applying online. The second round was with the hiring manager over the phone later that week. Next, I was asked to move forward and meet with the team the following week. This was the last and final step and took 3 hours, meeting with 1-2 team members in 30-minute increments virtually due to the pandemic. The questions asked during this stage were situational/behavioral and focused more on your resume and experience. After meeting the team, it took 2 weeks for me to hear back from the recruiter about the final decision, but this expectation was laid out in the beginning of the interview process.

Question 1
Why do you want to work at Illumina?
Describe a time when a customer called with high emotion and how did you deescalate the call?
I applied online. The process took 8 weeks. I interviewed at Illumina in Feb 2019
Interview
One month after applying online I was sent an email saying they would be reaching out to me to do a phone interview. Then a couple of days later, another email came to me that gave me a date and time they would be calling. When that call came, it was actually the manager that reached out first, not an HR person or a recruiter. We had a good, lengthy conversation. She said that they would like to continue the process with me and that the next step would be HR reaching out to me to bring me in for an in-person interview.
Again another email comes with a date and time to be ready for the next call, and a few days later the call comes and I chat with the HR guy. Again the interview ends with a "be on the lookout for my secretary to reach out to set up a date and time for you to come in".
The next day another email comes to me saying we are bringing you in and we will contact you soon to give you a specific date and time.
Then 2 weeks go by and an email comes in saying I'm no longer being considered. Done and done. Very disappointing and confusing.
So who knows? Big company. Maybe they promoted someone or hired a contractor? It is what it is.
Tips: Don't get your hopes up with this company and they move slowly.
