I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Illumina (San Diego, CA) in Mar 2015
Interview
There is a form that you fill out online first, followed by a phone interview, and then the top three candidates for each spot are brought on sight for the iAspire assessment center which is 4 hours or so long. The process is pretty relaxed but definitely fun as well.
Virtual interview, I didn't get to talk to a real person, had to record all of my answers with a time limit, it was a horrible process and there was very little human communication
The first step was an audio-only hirevue that allowed two attempts. After passing that, there were two video call interviews with team members for a total of around 90 minutes give or take.

Interview
Weird video interview where they asked me "How would you explain to a 6-year-old why the sky is orange at sunset." The other question I don't remember but was equally strange for a 2-question video interview. It felt very impersonal.
