Be sure to apply for positions which match your experience, education, and background. I was looking to get a foot in the door as I pursue a degree in nursing. Within 2 weeks or so of uploading my resume I was contacted by recruiter. She made sure I was aware of the general pay and time commitments for the role I was seeking as a Clinical Technician. She was kind and asked a few questions about my background and interest in the position. The initial call was not more than 10 minutes. She said she would have my application reviewed at the hospital and that if there was good match, she would let me know. Within 2 weeks she set up an interview and shadow experience within a department in the hospital where I had expressed interest. I had my interview with a Clinical director for about hour and then shadowed 2 clinical techs on the floor for 30 mins. This was great experience for me. The interview was comfortable and relaxed. After two weeks I was informed by the recruiter that the Director had chosen another candidate… however she asked if I would consider the same role within a different department. Of course, I said yes! Within a few days she had scheduled a virtual interview with another Clinical director in the same hospital. The virtual interview was maybe 45 minutes. I wore a suit and a tie. A few days following this interview, I was offered a position! The hiring process at Inova has been extremely positive. If my work experience with staff in the hospital is anything like the hiring process I just experienced, I will be very happy. Even if they do not hire you on your first interview, stay positive and don’t give up. I am grateful to have the opportunity to get my foot in the door in a clinical setting with no prior direct healthcare experience. It’s clear they are looking for talent, not just a rigid set of highlights on a resume. Good luck!
