Lyft interview questions

I was referred into the position by an acquaintance. We were both getting a bonus for me signing on. The whole interview process was facilitated through the app, including the in-peron interview. here's their checklist they send in emails: Apply to be a Lyft driver ✓ Download the Lyft app and log in with Facebook ✓ Open the app and complete your driver information ✓ Watch the Lyft welcome videos ✓ Provide your shipping address Take a test drive with a Lyft mentor Pass background check Final application review Give your first Lyft! After watching videos online and reading the information on the website, taking tests, submitting DMV and Insurance info, I went to the location indicated and met with a Mentor who inspected my vehicle for safety and condition. We then went for a test drive where my driving was evaluated by the mentor. I ask a lot of questions and she was mainly very helpful. It came out that she was working in the office for Lyft and she was a little cagey about airport pick up questions, which I didn't like. She also complained about dogs in her car, which was something that happened to me 2 in 8 months of driving. I would prefer to have had a mentor who was an experienced driver. But other than that, she was friendly and she got me on the road in about an hour. They must have checked my driving record at some point for DUIs and points before this in-person interview.

Was contacted by a recruiter about a week after applying online for an iOS position. Set up a quick 30 minute call but she got the time zone wrong, so we had to reschedule. After the recruiter call, did a short technical call with an engineer. The technical interview had very little in the way of coding, just asking questions about my development style. After that the recruiter wanted me to complete a "short" programming assignment. I pushed back since I hate doing these but they told me it was part of their process. I spent a good 8 hours building a "small" app (they told me to send it within 2 days). A few days after submitting the app, I got a form rejection email and no contact since. My experience is similar to another interviewee on Glassdoor who I should've paid attention to. While the app I wrote was not perfect, I have no way of knowing what it was lacking, and literally spent hours on it for no reason. Companies that require candidates to do this before an onsite just come off as lazy as it requires no extra work for them and a lot of extra work for the candidates. My suggestion is an emphatic DO NOT APPLY FOR A JOB AT LYFT. It is not worth your time. There are better companies out there that require fewer hoops to jump through and actually treat the candidates with respect.
