ML model was deployed. But it did not work as per the test scenario. Why?

My answer was, perform root cause troubleshooting. Check for AUC. Recruiter told me the correct answer was check/clean the data on the deployment end! Root cause troubleshooting should be the way to go. An outsider will have no clue as to what to expect! Bad stated answer for a bad question.
