Interview
Have to submit an application online with essay, rec letters, etc. Then have to write to PIs who match your interest and ask them if they are hiring and will look at your application. A lot of work to get an interview!

Depends on the lab you're interviewing with, but most do an initial interview with the current IRTA of the lab before passing you on. Some do entire super-days of interviews,
Once you are able to secure an interview through emailing, the processes proceeds quickly and clearly. It might be hard to get started but once you get going the process moves fast.

They emphasize a lot of questions about what you want to do in the future and how this position would fit in that. It is an educational position.

I met with a PI and discussed their research goals as well as my own goals for the experience. I learned a lot about the program, its benefits, and the kind of work I would be looking forward to.
