They reached out to me on hired.com and gave me a take home assignment, I completed it, and they liked it. It was all pretty quick. Two days after the onsite interview, they extended an offer. They give neither a signing bonus nor equity . The base pay is all you get. So I tried to negotiate on the base pay. They didn't move from their initial numbers and I rejected the offer. When I rejected the offer, they sounded very rude, furious, and started making many statements/questions like: where do you come from? what is your justification for asking so much? They made many such statements without a break (I don't remember all of it and don't wish to) and I was appalled.
Even before the process started, I did tell them that I have interviews scheduled with couple other companies. They were neither ready to negotiate on the base pay, nor ready to wait until I did my other interviews. So I would assume it was not a shock that I turned down their offer. Whatever the reason was, it seemed quite unprofessional , and also desperate, and I am glad I didn't join them.
