PSEG uses the STAR system of behavioral interviewing, but my experience was that the interviewers got off message pretty quickly and reverted to asking their own battery of questions. I was brought in for 3 rounds of interviews, the first by a panel of 3 managers, the second by a panel of 2 VPs, and finally with an EVP. The managers I interviewed with started out asking STAR questions but then diverted to discussing areas of my resume that interested them and also past employers/experiences that we held in common. The VPs did a better job of staying on message with STAR questions but still detoured quite a bit off of the company's prescribed format, but it was valuable in that they offered a lot of insights about the company and their satisfaction with the company really came across well. The EVP did not use the STAR format at all and had an adversarial and somewhat condescending tone during the interview that was off-putting, and in retrospect, I should have listened to my instincts that this person would be very difficult to work under.
