I applied for a Lead Software Engineer position, and was told mid-interview that the position had been filled by promoting from within but a senior role had opened up without a difference in pay. I went ahead with a second interview, which was a technical interview, to see what it was about. I was interviewed by a panel of engineers, who ran me through a technical "assessment" straight from Googling "top 50 senior software engineer interview questions", a poor way to assess technical aptitude but a great way to see if someone has memorized the answers to "top 50 senior software engineer questions". These questions were the entirety of the interview. I wasn't given any opportunity to talk about past projects, experience, etc., which I found very odd. I was ghosted after the interview and never heard feedback one way or the other.
