2 phone calls -> Onsite interview -> follow up call -> then negotiation (optional).
Very professional and well communicated.
They did a phone screening with a recruiter after I handed in my resume... I should note that I handed my resume to a recruiter at University of Central Florida who was only looking for Coders and Engineers, while I wanted to get into the sales team. SO, don't think your location, the situation, or how you apply is going to stop them from at least considering you.
After the phone screen, 1 on 1 call with my future manager, now Director. 1 followup call from that before offer to fly me to Atlanta for an interview... I offered to drive on my dime though so as to remove the fear that I might not be worth flying out.... in retrospect, you can get round trips from Orlando to Atlanta for like $30-50 so I should have taken the flight.
I did a panel interview with 3 managers and 1 VP. Got an offer the next day, and only wanted a followup with a testimonial from my last Sales managers, (2 in total).
There was one more call where I requested a relocation bonus to move up from Orlando, It was smart becuase it costed even more than expected to move up.
