My first interview was a videotaped recorded one using their software, which I thought was strange, since I'm so used to initial interviews being performed by an HR rep, but whatever.
My second video interview was with the actual Hiring Manager, who was a rather strange individual. The entire interview was bazaar, as I have never had someone spill so much negativity about their employer during an interview. He pretty much told me it was a crappy place with lots of layoffs and poorly managed company. I got the sense that he was on his way out the door, so was just giving me a secret heads up.
I took his cues, and never sent a 'thank you' note or anything because it didn't sound like he or the company would be a positive experience at all.
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback regarding your interview at Shutterfly. We do use video interviews as a first step in our process. This allows our candidates to conduct the interview at whatever time is the most convenient for them. It also allows us to get more information than a phone screen and gives the candidate an opportunity to really show their strengths and personality in a short period of time. We will work on providing better communication up front regarding our process.
Based on your comments, it seems like we can do a better job communicating our plans and vision for the future. We will be following up with our hiring managers to ensure that they understand how best to talk about the exciting future and opportunities here at Shutterfly.
Please know that we take your sentiments to heart, and these areas are is something we've identified and are actively working on creating lasting change. Thank you again for your feedback and the opportunity it creates for us to learn and get better.
