Someone from my graduate program approached us looking for linguists. I responded. About a month later I got a completely unexpected interview. I jumped on it, and while the interviewer I spoke with had a similar background to mine (I checked LinkedIn same degree, same subfield) and was polite, he didn't backchannel the entire interview (adding to a massive anxiety attack, I have GAD) and had a lackluster tone in his voice when we ended the call. I wasn't surprised to receive a form rejection 48 hours later. I'm guessing it had to do with his call not going through right away when he called while I was sitting at my desk waiting for him and the horrible anxiety attack I had the rest of the time as a consequence. Who knows? Maybe he had to do that call to justify hiring someone he'd already handpicked. I just wish they'd stop promising to keep my resume on file and encouraging me to reapply in these things when they clearly don't want to hire me.
