I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at USAA (San Antonio, TX) in Aug 2011
Interview
Had one initial phone interview with a series of fairly high level throught-process and design questions. Was invited to on-site interview fairly soon and was 1 of 3 who ended up hired in that group of about 20. The reception was great and very laid back. I felt very comfortable even though I can get extremely nervous in those situations. The on-site interview was very straightforward. I didn't have much experience interviewing, and I even kind of botched the main problem solving question because I was trying to make it too difficult. Apparently my other characteristics and resume shown through because I ended up hired. I have mixed feelings since I don't think interviews are the best judge of a good future employee's skills or character. I'm just grateful to have gotten the position; though, I do think they need to raise their standards significantly overall. After the on-site interview and tour of the ridiculously large complex, I followed up with thank you emails, and it took much longer than I was hoping to secure the official offer and start date.
