I applied online. I interviewed at VIPKid (Philadelphia, PA) in Feb 2017
Interview
First interview was with someone in the Beijing office. She seemed a bit rushed and she instructed me to teach my demo lesson in 10 minutes instead of 15 which is what I had prepped for. I obviously went over and did not finish the mock lesson which was frustrating and she marked this against me on my assessment. I was offered $8 base pay (usually $20/hour) which I was happy with.
My next 2 interviews went very well and the mentors provided very helpful feedback. Take advantage of this time and ask them "How would you recommend teaching this slide?" for any you feel uncertain about. Also make sure to watch the YouTube videos that have been made by fellow teachers and have plenty of props on hand for the demo lessons. Wearing an orange shirt isn't required, but I would recommend it. I would also recommend wearing a good headset with a mic. I was using Apple headphones with the mic attached and they asked me to change to a headset for my next demo lesson.
Make sure to smile a lot, be energetic, and show that you have taken the time to prepare for the interview/demo lessons.
