I applied through college or university. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at West Monroe (Chicago, IL) in Apr 2016
Interview
My first interview took place at an MBA forum in March (Chicago), with my MBA class graduating in May/June.
The first round was a 45-minute behavioral interview, followed by a brief 15-minute behavioral type chat with the MBA recruiter at the forum.
The second and third round interviews were held over the phone, and were both typical behavioral, and lasted 30-40 minutes a piece, as we ran a bit over.
The fourth and final round was a super-day held in their Chicago office, during which I chatted in person with two consultants, over the phone with two others (different offices but same group), along with a lunch and then an industry specific case. The case was not bad - it was NOT heavy on the quant side, and did not require a lot of computation.
They had to reschedule one or two of the interviews, as client engagements popped up and drew the consultants away from the interview process. While this was not ideal, they are still a smaller firm and do not have the same resources that a larger big 4 would have when it comes to staffing for recruitment type events and interviewing.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Tell me about your prior work experience. Tell me about your MBA experience. Tell me about why you are switching industries, and are interested in consulting.
I applied online. I interviewed at West Monroe in May 2026
Interview
I submitted an application because I met all of the Required Qualifications of the job description. I was contacted by internal Talent Acquisition at West Monroe, and we set up a phone screen. He asked me to give my 5-10 minute background of myself so I laid out my expertise, then he asked me if I had any specific experience with a certain sub-industry/domain and I said no but that I've ramped on new topics quickly in all of my previous roles so would be prepared to do so again. He said that experience was non-negotiable for the team then ended the call. No where in the job description is that stated, otherwise frankly I wouldn't have applied or spent time prepping for it. I sent email feedback stating they should add that to the required qualifications instead of burying it in desired, but the job description has not changed.
3rd party HR reached out and then had a multi round teams interview with the team. Case study was given and needed to be provided back the next day. They reviewed and the whole process took less than 2 weeks.

Question 1
what are the different areas that one should think about when accessing a IT implementation project?
I had a very disappointing experience during the interview process with West Monroe. The HR representative asked numerous questions that were unrelated to the role I applied for, and some even bordered on probing into confidential details about my current job — which made me feel extremely uncomfortable.
The tone came off as rude and invasive rather than professional or engaging. To make matters worse, the interviewer did not leave any time at the end for me to ask questions about the company or the role. It felt like a one-sided interrogation rather than a two-way conversation.
Overall, I left the interview with a negative impression of the company culture. Based on my experience, I would advise others to proceed with caution or consider looking elsewhere.
