Virtual Desktop Infrastructure. It's used to provide virtual desktops/workstations to resources. (as opposed to a fully installed OS on a computer at your desk) This allows remote workers to always have the same workstation where ever they go....and allows the IT organization to utilize higher performance server hardware for workstations.
