UDP is a connectionless stream with no guarantee of packet delivery. It's best used in systems requiring low latency transfer of information such as VOIP. TCP is a connection-oriented reliable protocol. It's often associated with applications that care more about the entirety of information being transmitted in an accurate manner- rather than speed.
