There are quite a few differences between the Eurozone and US economies. The Eurozone is a group of countries united by a common currency, the Euro. While the monetary policy in the Eurozone is controlled by the ECB, similar to the Federal Reserve Bank, the composition of the countries make monetary policy more difficult to control in the Eurozone. The members of the Eurozone have different languages, customs and cultures. Moreover, the economies of members can be in different stages of the economic cycle. Presently, certain countries such as Spain, Italy and France are impacted by high unemployment and declining production while inflation remains very low and the threat of disinflation is quite distant. This is in sharp contrast to the US, where unemployment is relatively low at 4.9%, and inflation, while below the Fed target of 2%, is still not a significant threat to the economy. Moreover, the US banking system is much more stable than those of the Eurozone, which are controlled by each country. For example, there has been much concern about Deutsche Bank, Germany's largest bank, as well as several of the Italian banks.
