Based on very pleasant email exchanges, I really felt like the hiring manager was pushing for me. Only at the end of the interview did we really discuss my lack of direct industry experience. Still, I received no indication this was a deal breaker. I was surprised (a bit heartbroken) by the decision, but confident it was the right one. When I asked for feedback, the Director was very helpful and honest (kudos). Unfortunately, the hiring manager went dark and I was accused of being pushy when asking for clarification on some feedback. I guess after being 'courted' I expected to be let down a bit more respectfully. Given the scope of what they have ahead of them, perhaps I need to check my expectations. Overall, it was an amazing experience and an intimate view inside a dynamic software success story. Convinced that this is the right direction for me to take, I'm going to continue to look for opportunities to gain the experience necessary to improve my chances next time.
