- Essay test (Submit via email 30mins) E.g what can SCDF do to improve itself? What is your impression of SCDF? - Psychometric test (Watson Glaser Test) can practice online with mock questions. Don’t rush it plenty of time. - Preliminary Interview 1:1, Personal questions about your family (Be frank and truthful) Plenty of scenario thinking. E.g What if one of your subordinate disobey your instruction leading to a complain and disciplinary hearing? Would you leave the force if this affects your career prospect? How do you handle a subordinate that is unhappy with his/her performance grading? Which issues would you solve first if a list of issues arises during a call? My advice is to have an explanation for every answer as the officer will scrutinise all your answers. - Final Board Interview, Personal questions about your family members will be asked again (Hence, be truthful what you told the officer during your preliminary interview as all the information are recorded) Other questions, Why SCDF and not SPF, ICA etc. ? What have you done in your life that was above and beyond? What are some difficulties face as a paramedic (My advice is to have more in-depth explanation do not state the obvious E.g being stress during a stressful situation, handling members of public. My answer was handling secondary appointments and giving up personal/ family time for when duty calls. Cliché? Yes! But music to their ears). What are your past experience? Why did you left your previous jobs? Are you sure you can live up to all the commitments that entails? Which fire stations have you visited? (I was man EMT during my NS time. Hence, I have an idea on how it works so that was advantageous. But you may just head down to a fire station visit and ask any paramedic how does the fire station operate) What innovations have SCDF introduced and how was it beneficial to our organisation and public? (Just download and read the SCDF Annual Report) Finally, they will ask you if you have any questions for them? (I politely told them that my questions were answered during preliminary interview by the HR Officer)
