HVAC Focus | Revit and AutoCAD Required | 1–2 Years of Experience
Ettinger Engineering Associates is an established New York City-based MEP/FP consulting engineering firm. Since 1960, we have partnered with developers, architects, institutions and public agencies on a wide range of residential, commercial, institutional and mixed-use projects.
We are seeking a Junior Mechanical / MEP Designer with approximately one to two years of relevant building-systems design experience for a fully remote position. The role will primarily support our mechanical HVAC team. Experience with plumbing, fire protection, electrical or fire alarm design is also valuable.
This is a production-oriented position for someone who understands the fundamentals of MEP construction documents and wants to develop stronger technical design skills while working under the direction of experienced engineers, project managers and department leadership.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and revise HVAC drawings using Revit and AutoCAD
- Develop mechanical plans, details, schedules, diagrams and risers based on direction and markups from senior staff
- Assist with HVAC system layouts, including ductwork, piping, equipment connections and related coordination
- Perform basic duct sizing, pipe sizing, airflow calculations and equipment selections
- Assist with mechanical riser sizing and preparation
- Review architectural backgrounds and identify coordination issues affecting MEP systems
- Incorporate markups accurately and efficiently
- Coordinate mechanical work with plumbing, fire protection, electrical, fire alarm, architectural and structural drawings
- Assist with equipment schedules, basic calculations and engineering documentation
- Support drawing production from schematic design through construction documents
- Follow established company standards, project instructions and quality-control procedures
- Communicate progress, questions and potential conflicts promptly to the supervising engineer or project manager
- Participate in remote coordination meetings, screen-sharing reviews and technical discussions
- Assist with additional MEP trades where project needs and the candidate’s experience permit
Required Qualifications
- Approximately one to two years of experience preparing HVAC or MEP construction documents
- Working proficiency in both Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD
- Experience using Revit for actual MEP project production, not solely academic modeling
- Ability to read and understand architectural and engineering drawings
- Familiarity with HVAC plans, ductwork, piping, equipment schedules and riser diagrams
- Ability to follow detailed markups and technical direction from mid-level and senior engineers
- Strong attention to detail and drawing coordination
- Organized, dependable and responsive
- Professional written and verbal English communication skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a distributed project team
- Reliable high-speed internet and a suitable professional remote-work environment
- Availability for regular working-hour overlap with the New York business day
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, diploma or technical training in mechanical engineering, building services engineering, architectural engineering or a related field
- Experience with multifamily residential, commercial, institutional or mixed-use buildings
- Familiarity with plumbing and fire protection design
- Familiarity with electrical power, lighting or fire alarm drawings
- Experience preparing equipment schedules and performing basic equipment selections
- Familiarity with New York City or other U.S. building codes and construction-document standards
- Experience coordinating linked architectural and structural Revit models
- Familiarity with Bluebeam, Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
- Ability to support more than one MEP/FP trade
Work Arrangement
This is a fully remote position.
