As a Controls Design Engineer at Switch, you will design and support EPMS and BMS control systems for hyperscale data centers. You will develop controls solutions, coordinate with design consultants, and help ensure designs meet Switch standards. This role supports reliable, scalable infrastructure through strong controls design, documentation, and system integration. Your work will contribute to consistency, quality, and continuous improvement across projects.
- Design EPMS and BMS control systems for hyperscale data centers using Switch standards and design requirements.
- Review design documents at key project milestones and drive resolution of review comments.
- Own assigned Division 25 documentation and coordinate updates with design consultants.
- Develop sequences of operation with mechanical and electrical engineering teams.
- Support large-scale chiller plant sequencing and controls design improvements.
- Identify missing controls components and recommend practical design solutions.
- Coordinate with consultants, vendors, manufacturers, and internal stakeholders on controls-related decisions.
- Lead or participate in recurring subject matter expert meetings.
- Provide technical guidance during equipment selection and system integration activities.
- Maintain controls design standards, specifications, and Basis of Design documentation.
- Evaluate new controls technologies, architectures, and programming approaches.
- Support site assessments and continuous improvement efforts related to cost, quality, schedule, and design consistency.
- Communicates clearly and shares information needed for sound decisions.
- Takes ownership of assigned work and follows through on commitments.
- Uses good judgment when solving technical problems and escalating risks.
- Works effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.

Required
- Experience designing building automation, EPMS, BMS, or mission-critical controls systems.
- Knowledge of HVAC controls, mechanical systems, and controls design practices.
- Knowledge of electrical distribution systems, power monitoring systems, and related monitoring devices.
- Experience developing or reviewing sequences of operation.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and controls network diagrams.
- Experience coordinating with design consultants and reviewing design deliverables.
- Strong organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, electronics, software engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with hyperscale data centers or other mission-critical facilities.
- Experience with large-scale chiller plant sequencing and programming.
- Experience using Bluebeam, Revit, Excel, Smartsheet, Microsoft Office, and Procore.
- Ability to travel up to 25% for site visits and stakeholder meetings.
