Compensation: $70,000-$90,000 plus performance based incentives package
Position Summary
Frontier Forest Products is a Midwest-based building materials distributor with a strong focus on commodity lumber. For over 20 years, we have built our business through strong relationships, disciplined decision-making, and a commitment to long-term growth.
We are seeking a Lumber Trader to join our West Des Moines team. This role combines commodity market analysis, inventory strategy, purchasing and sales execution, and customer relationship management. Success in this position comes from understanding markets, managing risk, making sound business decisions, and helping customers navigate changing market conditions.
This is not a retail sales, car sales, or high-volume cold-calling role.
Key Responsibilities
· Analyze lumber markets, pricing trends, inventory positions, and customer demand to identify trading opportunities.
· Buy and sell commodity lumber and other building material goods in a fast-moving market
· Analyze sales activity, inventory levels, margin performance, and market trends
· Position inventory based on demand, pricing, and market direction
· Communicate proactively with customers regarding market conditions, opportunities, and product availability
· Travel to meet with customers 1-2 days per month, including occasional overnight travel
· Coordinate with internal teams to ensure smooth execution and excellent customer service
Qualifications
· Experience in lumber trading, lumber sales, building materials distribution, or commodity-based industries preferred
· Strong analytical skills with the ability to read data and use it to support decisions
· Ability to make disciplined, fact-based decisions in a fast-moving environment
· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
· Strong organizational skills and follow-through
Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
