The School of Packaging in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources is seeking a full-time, highly motivated, student-centered Academic Advisor. This position will work with Packaging Undergraduate students at all levels in the program during a 9-month period. Typically, from mid-August through mid-May.
Responsibilities
The Academic Advisor will provide guidance to students on appropriate course selection, long-term academic/degree planning, internship and co-op exploration, and career placement.
Connect students with relevant campus resources and support services when additional assistance is required.
Maintain accurate, organized, confidential documentation of all student interactions.
Engage with prospective students and their families throughout university and college events.
Collaborate closely with faculty, advisors, and staff across the greater university community to stay abreast of university policies and procedures that impact student matriculation and success.
Work occasional evenings or weekends to support key advising initiatives and student-facing success events.
This is a fixed-term in-person academic specialist position with an initial appointment of one year from the employee’s start date. The position is renewable and contingent upon continued funding, satisfactory performance, and mutual agreement.
Required Degree: Masters
Minimum Requirements
· Master’s degree completed by the position start date.
· Strong oral and written communication skills, along with excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities.
· Demonstrated ability to engage undergraduate students and support their academic and personal success.
· Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, Microsoft Teams, Zoom and related productivity tools.
Desired Qualifications
· Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling, or a related field is preferred.
· Experience with Campus Solutions, Qualtrics, D2L, and data management systems that provide critical data regarding undergraduate students.
· Commitment to supporting students through key academic transitions, including guiding those who may need to explore alternative pathways and identify majors that fit their strengths and goals.
· Familiarity with university policies, procedures, and student information systems; knowledge of career fields related to business and STEM is preferred.
