Due to our continued growth, we are currently looking for two Heavy Civil Superintendent for our National Utility Division to join our team. This position will be working in the Midwest. The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
POSITION SUMMARY
The Superintendent is the senior field leader accountable for the safe, on-schedule, within-budget, and high-quality execution of multiple concurrent projects. This strategic role oversees Site Foremen, craft labor, and subcontractors; drives operational efficiency; and ensures full compliance with contract documents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Multi-Project Leadership & Execution
· Oversee all field operations across assigned projects to ensure safe, timely, and budget-compliant progress.
· Maintain and distribute 3-week look-ahead schedules; adjust dynamically to resolve sequencing conflicts.
· Proactively identify risks, resolve coordination issues, and maintain workflow continuity.
Safety & Compliance
· Promote company safety program across all sites; ensure compliance with client and company standards.
· Lead or delegate daily/weekly safety meetings and JHA reviews; conduct regular audits and follow-ups.
· Investigate incidents immediately; implement corrective actions and site-wide lessons learned.
Team Supervision & Accountability
· Develop future Superintendents; supervise, evaluate, and mentor Site Foremen.
· Provide Site Foremen with clear expectations and hold them accountable for performance.
· Foster a culture of respect, trust, and recognition; recognize excellence and address deficiencies promptly.
· Build and maintain a right-sized, highly trained craft workforce aligned with project demand.
Quality Assurance
· Enforce company and client QC standards; approve daily reports and conduct formal inspections.
· Maintain photo documentation and QC logs; escalate deficiencies to Project Management immediately.
· Ensure all work meets contract specifications before engineer’s review.
Resource & Logistics Optimization
· Forecast and allocate labor, equipment, and materials 2–4 weeks ahead across projects.
· Optimize site layout, storage, and material flow to minimize waste and delays.
· Resolve inter-project resource conflicts to protect overall schedule and budget. Escalate issues promptly.
Production Monitoring & Improvement
· Track actual vs. planned production daily; analyze variances with Foremen and Project Management.
· Identify and implement productivity improvements; capitalize on best practices across sites.
Communication & Stakeholder Management
· Primary field liaison with owners, general contractors, engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors.
· Coordinate resources across multiple projects; drive organizational process alignment.
· Ensure Site Foreman delivery of all required project reports to Project Management
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Cultivate strong client and trade partner relationships to support current and future work.
· Lead crew onboarding, training, and skill development initiatives.
· Drive continuous improvement through post-shift debriefs, toolbox talks, and process refinement.
· Support project closeout, punch lists, and turnover documentation.
