Northern Southeast Regional Aquaculture Association (NSRAA) is seeking qualified applicants for the Maintenance Engineer position at Hidden Falls Hatchery, located at a remote site on the eastern side of Baranof Island, Southeast Alaska. Hidden Falls is accessible by boat or float plane only.
The Maintenance Engineer, under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager, will be responsible for the maintenance, operation, and construction of hatchery facilities and equipment. The Maintenance Engineer is expected to apply their technical expertise to fish culture related hatchery challenges. Accordingly, this person must be a team player and have good problem-solving and organizational skills. To be successful, the maintenance engineer must be interested in learning about hatchery operations and be innovative, creative, and attentive to detail. Flexibility and adaptability are also important characteristics of this position.
The demands of this position are many and varied. Formal training, post-secondary education, and/or experience in certain skill areas is desirable. Prior experience or the ability to become familiar with the following skills will be used to evaluate the applicant’s suitability for this position:
· General carpentry, plumbing, painting
· Welding (aluminum, steel, plastics)
· Electrical (12–24-volt DC, 120/240 Volt AC)
· Equipment repair and maintenance (diesel engines, outboard motors, small gas engines, hydraulic pumps)
· Ability to learn and manage a complex water delivery system
· Heavy equipment operation
· Small boat operation and seamanship
· M.S. Office, Excel
In addition, this person must be able to plan and develop cost estimates for maintenance-related projects.
The position requires the Maintenance Engineer to live on-site in housing provided at no cost by NSRAA. Job responsibilities include being on-site approximately 10% of the time after normal working hours for standby to respond to emergencies and provide hatchery security.
