About Virtus Imaging Partners
Virtus Imaging Partners is a specialized MRI coil and imaging component restoration company serving hospitals, imaging centers, and OEM partners nationwide. We reverse engineer, diagnose, rebuild, and validate high performance RF coil assemblies to meet or exceed OEM signal performance standards. Our work directly supports uptime, image quality, and patient care across leading MRI platforms.
We are expanding our engineering bench and are seeking an RF Engineer with hands on troubleshooting experience in RF circuits, impedance matching networks, and signal integrity to support advanced coil repair and product improvement initiatives.
Position Overview
The RF Engineer will lead technical diagnostics and performance validation of MRI coil assemblies at the circuit and subsystem level. This role goes beyond bench repair. You will analyze RF failures, optimize tuning and matching networks, support process standardization, and drive continuous improvement in coil restoration.
This is an ideal opportunity for an RF professional who wants direct ownership over real hardware, real performance metrics, and regulated medical device standards.
Core Responsibilities
- Perform RF diagnostics on MRI coil assemblies including loop arrays, preamplifier circuits, detuning circuits, and matching networks.
- Troubleshoot signal loss, noise floor issues, impedance mismatches, and channel imbalance at the component and board level.
- Use vector network analyzers, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, LCR meters, and multimeters to validate RF performance.
- Tune and match coil elements to target impedance and frequency specifications.
Analyze and repair RF preamp boards, decoupling networks, traps, and cable assemblies.
- Support reverse engineering of coil designs where schematics are limited or unavailable.
- Collaborate with technicians to elevate repair processes from component replacement to root cause analysis.
- Develop standardized RF validation protocols and performance acceptance criteria.
- Document engineering findings in alignment with ISO 13485, FDA QSR, and internal quality systems.
- Assist in new product development, redesign, or improvement of coil assemblies.
Required Technical Background
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, RF Engineering, or related field preferred. Equivalent deep RF experience considered.
- 3 to 7 years of experience working with RF circuits, impedance matching, or high frequency analog systems.
- Hands on experience with tuning and matching networks.
Strong understanding of S parameters, return loss, insertion loss, and signal integrity.
- Experience using network analyzers and interpreting RF measurement data.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and PCB layouts.
- Comfortable performing fine pitch soldering and rework on multilayer PCBs.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in MRI systems, medical devices, or high frequency imaging systems.
- Familiarity with multi channel phased array systems.
- Knowledge of EMC considerations and RF shielding techniques.
- Exposure to regulated manufacturing environments such as ISO 13485 or FDA compliant operations.
What Makes This Role Unique
- You will work directly on high value MRI hardware used in clinical environments.
- You will have autonomy to solve complex RF failures, not simply replace parts.
- You will help shape engineering standards inside a growing national MRI service organization.
- You will influence product performance across major hospital systems.
Working Environment
- Engineering lab and advanced repair facility.
- ESD controlled environment.
- Occasional travel to customer facilities or technical partner sites up to 20 percent.
- Ability to handle assemblies up to 30 pounds.
