The NSLS-II Photon Science Division is seeking a well-organized and dedicated engineer and project manager to assist the division staff in the execution of beamline development projects for the world-leading NSLS-II facility. This work will include planning and coordinating the design, specification, procurement, and installation of advanced x-ray optics and experimental equipment, as well as the associated infrastructure. The position includes working as project Control Account Manager (CAM). The role will require excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as strong organizational proficiency, to ensure that projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Collaborate with Lead Scientist and other scientific staff to define project technical scope, resource requirements, and risk mitigation plans.
Develop and maintain cost and schedule using Earned Value Management principles to deliver project scope as defined by the Lead Scientist and approved by the Project Director.
Develop and submit Project Change Requests (PCRs) with concurrence of the Lead Scientist.
Coordinate the development of procurement documentation, including Statements of Work (SOW) and technical specifications, and oversee procurement activities.
Provide work control coordination of NSLS-II staff, BNL trades, and external contractors during the installation phase of the project.
Provide support for lower-level CAMs and Work Package Managers working on project scope for which you serve as a higher-level manager.
Participate in formal project reviews, technical design reviews, and required project reporting.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Bachelor's degree in a scientific or Engineer discipline
Minimum of 3 years of related experience
Demonstrated experience in project management
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across a diverse team of scientists, engineers, and technical professionals
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Advanced degree in Engineering or a related field
Minimum of 7 years of experience managing cross-functional projects
Demonstrated proficiency in project management principles and methodologies
Working knowledge of project management software such as Primavera, Microsoft Project, Jira, or Asana
Familiarity with earned value management (EVM) practices and principles
Environmental, Health & Safety Requirements:
Lifting, moderate weights 15-30 lbs.
Physical coordination and balance.
Arm/hand dexterity.
Vision, good near and normal color.
Continuous walking/standing/office work.
Other Information:
The successful candidate will be hired at the appropriate level commensurate with depth and breadth of experience.
Some international travel may be required.
Required to be on-site 5 days per week.

This is a multi-level role and the full salary range for this position is $100,600.00 - $158,283.00 / year. You will be placed at the level and salary commensurate with your experience.
