Position Overview
ERSC is seeking a Licensed Land Surveyor (PLS) to support a variety of municipal and public works infrastructure projects, including streets, utilities, storm drain, water, and capital improvement projects (CIP).
This role involves both office and field responsibilities, including boundary analysis, construction staking oversight, mapping, and coordination with engineers and public agencies. The ideal candidate has experience working with California public agencies, Map Act requirements, and public works project delivery.]
Key Responsibilities
Survey Project Delivery
- Perform and oversee boundary, topographic, and construction staking surveys for public works projects
- Prepare and review Records of Survey, corner records, legal descriptions, easements, and ALTA surveys
- Provide survey data to support design, plan check, and construction phases
- Establish and verify horizontal and vertical control networks
Public Works & Municipal Coordination
- Coordinate with cities, counties, water districts, and other public agencies
- Ensure compliance with California Map Act, local agency standards, and regulatory requirements
- Support CIP projects including roadway improvements, utility infrastructure, and drainage systems
- Review survey deliverables for accuracy and adherence to agency requirements
Technical & Field Oversight
- Manage and oversee survey crews and field operations
- Ensure proper use of GPS/GNSS, total stations, and survey data collection systems
- Review field data, calculations, and survey reports for accuracy
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and designers to support project delivery
Mapping & Deliverables
- Prepare and review CAD-based survey maps and exhibits (AutoCAD Civil 3D)
- Develop topographic base maps, right-of-way exhibits, and as-built surveys
- Maintain organized project documentation and survey records
Team Leadership & Quality Control
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior staff
- Perform QA/QC on survey deliverables
- Support continuous improvement of survey workflows and standards
QualificationsRequired
- Active California Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license
- Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field
- 8+ years of professional surveying experience, preferably in public works or municipal projects
- Strong knowledge of:
- Boundary law and legal descriptions
- California Map Act and municipal standards
- Public agency processes and infrastructure projects
Preferred
- Experience supporting CIP, infrastructure, or utility projects
- Proficiency in:
- AutoCAD Civil 3D
- GIS (ArcGIS or similar)
- GPS/GNSS and robotic total station equipment
- Experience managing survey crews or leading projects
Pay: $110,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
