AirTape LLC is developing innovative automated envelope and chain package feed systems for drone and vehicle delivery platforms. We are currently seeking an experienced independent contractor (Mechanical Engineer or Electrical Engineer) to create detailed mechanical CAD designs, parts list, assembly instructions, and develop PLC-based control systems for our proprietary Drone Package Feeder systems.
All designs, models, drawings, PLC code, documentation, and related intellectual property created under this engagement will be assigned exclusively to AirTape LLC via a formal work-for-hire / IP assignment agreement.
Key Responsibilities
- Create complete 3D mechanical CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings for the envelope tape feed system -tape drives/ package drives, tape cutter, package reader, drone platform interface, vehicle opening interface, etc.
- Generate Bills of Materials (BOMs), assembly drawings, and detailed fabrication/assembly documentation.
- Design the electrical/control architecture, including PLC hardware selection, I/O lists, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts.
- Program and commission PLC logic to control tape/package feeding, package indexing/positioning, cutting, sensing, safety interlocks, and integration with drone platform operations.
- Collaborate remotely with the AirTape team through video calls and shared design files to iterate on designs and ensure alignment with system requirements and existing patent concepts.
- Optimize designs for manufacturability, reliability, cost, and ease of assembly.
- Execute all required IP assignment and confidentiality agreements transferring full ownership of the work product to AirTape LLC.

- Hands-on PLC programming experience (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, or equivalent platforms). Ladder logic and structured text experience required.
- Solid understanding of motion control, sensors, actuators, and automated material handling or packaging equipment.
- Ability to work independently as a remote contractor and deliver high-quality, production-ready designs.
- Willingness to sign a contractor services agreement that includes full IP assignment of all designs and code to AirTape LLC.
- Portfolio of relevant CAD models/drawings and/or PLC projects is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with packaging machinery, tape handling equipment, or automated feeding systems.
- Familiarity with drone payload handling or last-mile delivery automation.
- Knowledge of industrial safety standards (ISO 13849, NFPA 79, etc.).
- Experience taking designs from concept through fabrication and testing.
Compensation & Engagement This is a project-based independent contractor (1099) engagement. Compensation will be project milestone-based and will be negotiated based on scope, experience, and estimated hours. Exact rate and payment terms will be discussed during the interview process.
