Job Overview
Systems Engineer
West of Mississippi
Near an airport
(Upper Midwest may suffice)
TKH Security is hiring a Field Technician to integrate and support automated parking guidance systems (Park Assist) and video systems for deployments at customer locations. You’ll be the local face of a Connecticut headquartered team, partnering with Project Managers to deliver high quality installations on time and on budget. This position is remote with approximately 50% travel. Individuals who succeed in the role have strong technical backgrounds with hands-on experience of both software and hardware, are internally-motivated, and have a “whatever it takes” commitment to the success of a project.
Location
Based west of the Mississippi River and within a reasonable drive of a major airport; Upper Midwest strongly considered.
What You’ll Do
Project execution and collaboration, working in coordination with the Lead System Engineer and individual Project Managers to deliver successful projects that meet client expectations and business financial performance in a timely manner.
Onsite integration and commissioning of projects, including:
- Build and configure servers (Windows/Linux/Proxmox VE) for VMS/analytics: imaging, storage setup, hardening, user accounts, backups, and monitoring agents.
- Configure Layer 2 switches: create VLANs (802.1Q), set access/trunk ports, manage PoE budgets, apply port descriptions/labels, enable LLDP and storm control, and handle switch management (management IP, NTP, SNMP/syslog).
- Commission and configure TKH Security | Park Assist field equipment (sensors, controllers, gateways) and CCTV devices: IP addressing and firmware updates.
Perform precise configuration and topology mapping for the APGS in parking garages and surface lots:
- Define zones/levels/rows and assign unique space IDs; map each parking bay to the correct camera view(s). Configure regions of interest/masks in the parking guidance software so each bay is accurately tracked.
- Ensure accuracy of camera-to-bay and VMS signage topology and document the final mapping in as-builts and customer drawings.
Confirm basic system operation, perform system testing, and creation of as-builts documentation and port maps before handoff.
Review daily status of assigned work, surface risks/opportunities promptly, and uphold TKH Security’s standards of quality and workmanship.
Fulfill contractual obligations and respond to requests from internal and external stakeholders.
Between trips (remote/office days) responsibilities include:
- Review active projects daily: update status in Jira/Confluence or project trackers, identify risks/dependencies, and escalate issues to PMs and the Lead System Engineer.
- Plan upcoming deployments: develop task plans, installation sequences, port schedules, addressing/VLAN plans, Proxmox VM/LXC sizing, and cut sheets; prepare customer-ready schedules.
- Coordinate logistics and schedules with customers, subcontractors, and vendors; secure access, permits/badging, and maintenance windows; align travel with site readiness.
- Support procurement and readiness: validate BOMs, flag long lead items, track shipments, and ensure spares/RMAs are available for upcoming work.
- Improve documentation and process: pre-populate as-built templates, refine SOPs/checklists, and capture lessons learned for continuous improvement.
- Provide remote troubleshooting or configuration guidance to on-site subcontractors as needed to keep active projects on track.
