Position Summary
The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer serves as a technical leader and subject matter expert, bridging the gap between customers, operations, and engineering. This role is responsible for developing, supporting, and optimizing CNC programs for vertical lathes, CNC mills, and turbine component repair operations.
The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer applies advanced machining expertise and CNC programming knowledge to support complex manufacturing and repair applications, ensuring accurate toolpaths, efficient processes, and consistent, high-quality results.
This position partners closely with customers, operators, and cross-functional engineering teams to solve machining challenges, lead process improvements, and implement robust, application-specific solutions in a high-precision aerospace environment.
Key Responsibilities - CNC Programming & Technical Leadership
- Develop, optimize, and maintain CNC programs for vertical lathes, CNC milling machines, and turbine repair applications
- Troubleshoot and refine CNC code at the machine and post-processor level to resolve complex machining and process issues
- Create, review, and modify CAD models to support CNC programming, repair strategies, toolpaths, and process validation
- Provide advanced technical guidance to operators, programmers, and engineers on machining strategies, tooling selection, and process optimization
- Support additive manufacturing processes as they relate to design and repair applications
- Lead hands-on troubleshooting efforts on the shop floor to diagnose and resolve production challenges
Process Development, Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Lead collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to define and implement machining and repair strategies
- Develop and standardize work instructions, setup sheets, programming guidelines, and process documentation
- Drive Lean manufacturing initiatives to improve cycle time, reduce waste, and enhance process flow
- Support and lead process validation activities, including first-article inspections and production trials
- Capture best practices and institutional knowledge, incorporating lessons learned into standardized processes
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field or equivalent hands-on experience
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex requirements into practical solutions
- Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical and operational teams
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience developing and supporting CNC programs in a production or repair environment
- Strong working knowledge of G-code, machining strategies, tooling, and workholding
- Experience with complex aerospace or high-tolerance component repair
- Proficiency with CAD modeling for CNC programming and process development
- Experience creating and maintaining standard work and process documentation
- Demonstrated experience with Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
- Prior experience mentoring junior engineers or leading technical efforts
