About the Role
We are seeking a driven and community-minded Energy Efficiency Direct Install Delivery Manager to support multiple programs focused on energy efficiency and sustainability, with an emphasis on serving historically underserved small business owners. Successful candidates will excel in recruiting and managing energy efficiency contractors to complete projects with selected businesses, skillfully communicating progress through our online tools, and collaborating with their team and our partners.
Key Responsibilities
As an Energy Efficiency Direct Install Delivery Manager, you will both recruit and manage a group of contractors to perform energy upgrades at small businesses. Responsibilities include:
- Contractor recruitment and onboarding
- Contractor relationship management
- Direct install project delivery oversight
- Pipeline and project tracking
- Installation coordination and issue resolution
- QA/QC and compliance support
- Identification of contractor capacity gaps and delivery risks
- Pivoting to support teammates and multiple programs, with occasional travel across California
Required Skills and Experience
- Must be located in or willing to relocate to San Diego County
- Demonstrated experience in contractor management, energy assessment, and community or business outreach
- Energy efficiency or facilities auditing experience
- Proficiency in database use, spreadsheets, and data tracking tools
- Very strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Additional Requirements
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel outside San Diego County 3–4 times per year
- Demonstrated passion for helping the community and/or environment
- Proactive, fast learner, and willing to wear many hats
- Self-directed with the ability to achieve work goals with minimal supervision
- Comfortable balancing multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously
Desired / Preferred Skills
These aren't required but would make a candidate stand out:
- Bilingual ability — Spanish proficiency strongly preferred given the focus on underserved small business communities in Southern California
- Knowledge of utility programs — Familiarity with SDG&E, SCE, PG&E, or IOU energy efficiency programs, including incentive structures and compliance requirements
- Technical energy knowledge — Understanding of common direct install measures such as LED lighting, refrigeration upgrades, HVAC controls, and compressed air systems
- CRM or program management tools — Experience with Hubspot, or similar platforms used to track contractor pipelines and project milestones
- Environmental justice awareness — Familiarity with disadvantaged community (DAC) designations, CalEnviroScreen, or equity-focused program delivery frameworks
- Contractor licensing knowledge — Basic understanding of California contractor licensing (CSLB), bonding, insurance requirements, and subcontracting compliance
- Grant or program reporting — Experience supporting reporting obligations tied to ratepayer-funded or government-administered programs
- Relationship building across cultures — Proven ability to build trust with business owners and contractors from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
- Basic project management methodology — Familiarity with project management frameworks (PMP, Agile, or similar) to keep multiple concurrent projects on track
- Training or coaching experience — Ability to onboard and coach contractors on program requirements, quality standards, and customer service expectations
