Summary
The Concrete Lab Technician will perform hands-on testing of concrete and related materials in a laboratory setting. This position involves frequent concrete batching, specimen preparation, concrete mixing, testing, and recording and reporting results for compressive, flexural, and other related data as required. In addition, this role will also perform a range of concrete materials testing, including concrete, mortar, and aggregate. This ideal candidate is someone who enjoys physically active work, takes pride in precision and quality, and wants to grow withing the field of concrete testing. The role requires curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to stay active in and around the lab. This position is also expected to assist in maintaining and improving the lab and surrounding spaces.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Perform regular concrete batching, mixing, and testing in accordance with laboratory standards (e.g., ASTM, AASHTO, ACI)
· Perform a range of concrete materials testing, including concrete, mortar, and aggregate testing
· Accurately document and report test data in a timely and organized manner
· Support research and development activities in the lab as required
· Assist with light fabrication, repairs, or occasional hands-on building tasks to support testing or lab operations.
· Identify and assist with basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
· Monitor and manage inventory of materials and supplies
· Ensure the lab remains clean, organized, and safe at all times
· Participate in safety protocols and assist in identifying areas for improvement in lab safety practices
· Work collaboratively with the Concrete Director and other team members
· Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Required Skills and Abilities:
· Experience working with cement, mortar, or concrete.
· Understanding of (or willingness to learn) common test methods and standards (e.g., ASTM, AASHTO, ACI)
· Skilled with cement and concrete testing equipment and tools
· Capable of assisting with laboratory-based investigations and development projects
· Self-motivated and able to take initiative to improve lab procedures, workspace layout, and testing efficiency.
· Strong attention to detail and accuracy in mixing, measuring, and recording data
· Comfortable working in a physically active, fast-paced lab environment
· Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and file organization
· Good communication skills and ability to work well with a team
· Must have reliable transportation.
Education and Experience:
· High school diploma or equivalent
· Higher-level education or relevant lab experience, preferred.
· ACI certification(s) preferred but not required – training and certifications will be provided by employer
· Prior experience in a concrete, construction materials, or testing lab is a plus.
· Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite, (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Physical Requirements:
· Comfortable with prolonged standing and walking
· Ability to crouch, stoop, kneel, squat and bend for long periods of time.
· Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds at a time.
· Able to work in Shop/Warehouse environment, indoor/outdoor, and occasional inclement weather conditions.
· Requires full range of body movement.

Pay: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour
