Purpose
The Director of Communications is responsible for implementing an integrated internal and external communications strategy that supports the company’s goals and business objectives. This role is responsible for executing internal and external communications concerning branding, marketing to support brand growth, company culture, employee engagement, and departmental and companywide communications in alignment with company messaging direction established by executive leadership, including the Chief Administrative Officer and Chief of Staff. The Director of Communications serves as the operational lead for translating strategy into clear, consistent, and timely communication across all platforms and audiences.
Essential Job Functions
- Execute a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with company objectives, growth initiatives, and long-term vision
- Translate executive messaging direction into clear, actionable communication across all channels
- Ensure timely rollout and distribution of communications internally and externally
- Utilize communication technologies, digital platforms, and AI tools to improve speed, efficiency, and reach of communications and brand identity
- Ensure consistency across communications, visual identity, and public facing experiences; ensure all communications adhere to established company messaging, voice, and brand standards
- Partner with internal and external teams to ensure development initiatives and key projects reflect a distinct identity and experience in line with company brand
- Support internal communications to improve transparency, alignment, and engagement companywide
- Develop internal communication tools and channels (branded company updates, newsletters, leadership messages, departmental/divisional updates, intranet content, video messaging, etc.)
- Support change management messaging related to growth, organizational changes, and major initiatives
- Oversee external communications, including company announcements, press releases, project highlights, and thought leadership
- Support the preparation, drafting, and distribution of executive communications, including leadership announcements, updates, and presentations
- Support public relations efforts and media coordination; support responsive messaging during critical or sensitive events
- Ensure consistent brand voice, tone, and messaging across all business units and platforms
- Lead communications team including external vendors (designers, photographers, videographers, PR firms) and manage vendor agreements and relationships
- Maintain budgets, general and project specific for communication and marketing related activities
- Support sponsorship opportunities and participatory event activities for staff
- Assist with events, stakeholder communications, and community visibility initiatives
- Develop and manage professional social media strategies that align with company brand and goals
- Create and curate content across various digital platforms including internal, website, and social media
- Develop and manage company website(s) and manage all necessary components of digital brand alignment
- Develop and deliver high-quality written, visual, and digital communication assets across a wide range of timelines and business needs
- Maintain brand assets and archives
- Work closely with leadership, business development, HR, operations, and project teams to identify communication opportunities and priorities
- Serve as a central point for organizing, sequencing, and distributing companywide messaging
- Support recruitment, retention, and engagement initiatives in partnership with HR
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills Required
- 10+ years of progressive experience in communications, marketing, or public relations
- BA in Communication, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field
- Proven experience developing and executing strategic communications plans for complex businesses
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite
- Strong creative, oral and written communication skills
- Strong knowledge of social media strategies and operations
- Strong competency in brand stewardship and message consistency
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and able to engage with all employee levels and external stakeholders
- Highly organized and multi-project oriented, managing multiple priorities in fast paced environment
- Demonstrates a high degree of integrity, dependability, and confidentiality
- Must be able to work outside of normal business hours and be on call, as business needs dictate
Knowledge, Experience and Skills Desired
- Communications, marketing, or public relations experience specifically within real estate, construction, land development, or related industries
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to represent company at events as needed
- Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds at a time
- Must be able to perform physical actions and long hours required for event planning
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
